::Rae woke, as had become her wont as of late, about an hour before dusk. Dawn had always been the time she woke, to greet the glory of the day, and that habit had earned her the name Aurora from the man who still slept with the peaceful stillness of one not entirely grounded in this world. That had changed, when he had taken her. She gazed at him, her expression soft with a tenderness that had been so blessedly returned. She caressed that cheek,
her pale fingers not so pale when compared to that perfection of marble whiteness. Lords of Air and Dark, she could scarce believe how joyous she was, to have this man in her bed. He had been all she loved and longed for, for more years than she could count, and his tender ministrations erased all that had been only to replace it with memories a thousand times more precious. Her gaze fell on those lips, velvet soft while he woke, and thought of
last night in particular. His lovemaking had been ferocious, sparking a response just as passionate from her. He had bitten her, at one point, but something he had done had erased those marks before they could form on her slender neck. Or had that only been a memory of the past? They had cried out together, their breath mingling as he took another kiss, and that kiss had been sweet with the taste of both their names. It was like someone had cast
a spell over the two of them, that each time their limbs entwined it was sheer brilliant love, as if the souls of the lovers joined as well as their flesh. A tiny frown had marred her forehead as she had thought, the last caress of the night before they both slept at dawn, his hand had held some warmth. Impossible, of course. Mintiper was what he had been for so long, the hunter of the night, bane of those that would cross him or try to damage what
he had decided to love. The perfect predator, that she held over her heart these many nights past, and would do so for as long as they were together.
She rose, slender limbs full of noble grace, as befitted one such as she. Rae was surely not the loveliest of her sisters, but she had her own charm. She wanted to be ready when he woke, for she had a surprise awaiting him anxiously in the next room. Her voice was soft, singing for him as she finished her warm bath and began to choose what to wear for their outing. Since where she had picked was warm, she dressed in a gown of pale blue lawn,
linen that was so fine that a layer of it was sheer over the hand. It was gathered in an empire waistline, her breasts contained by a ribbon that held what bodice there was closed tightly under them. Another ribbon ran along the neckline, to gather up the lawn over her breasts and was tied with a bow, its deep blue sparkling through the sheer material. She brushed her hair smooth with a magic warmed comb, and then gathered it up in Grecian style
on her head, more of the deep sapphire ribbon to hold it in place. Ringlets fell to frame her face and highlight the elegance of her perfectly pointed ears, and she placed a single sapphire crystal on a long silver chain about her throat. She turned to hear him stirring, those deep cerulean eyes kissed with a brush of silver like frost on a darkened windowpane opening to see her gazing at him. His smile was all the accolades she would ever need.
She left him a moment to dress as he would, going to the other room to gather up his surprise. Apple. She was suddenly struck for a craving for a crisp winter apple, and almost made an about face to go to the kitchens here to get one. She shook her head, food there would be aplenty later. She opened the door to see her surprise already up and dressed. Her smile was that saucy one that had gained her the title long ago of Impudent Bard, and
then those lips parted and her voice smiled too.::
I see that Ysabeau seeks to outshine her mother this night.
::Ysabeau turned from looking in the long mirror, her skirts swishing against the bare polished white pine floor of the room. She was a vision, and Rae wondered for a moment how lovely she would grow once she became a woman. She had chosen a dress like her mother's, the style familiar to the courts of Verona. The dress was white, however, although the ribbons were that same sparkling sapphire.
Jeanette had gathered Ysabeau's hair up at the crown with a sapphire jeweled pin, and then brushed her sable curls until they gleamed in the candle light. Her face blazed with a smile of pure joy as she ran to her Momma to hold her. Rae knelt to catch her up in her arms and held her close, for a moment just enjoying the adoration. Then she set her down, and put a finger to her lips.::
Come, but quietly, on little cat's feet.
::Smiling at each other, they tiptoed back to the other room. Rae peeked in to make sure he had dressed, and lost her breath. He was so handsome. Sometimes, she could not believe he had chosen her, could not believe that she could have ever been so lucky. He had dressed in a suit of crushed velvet in darkest blue, pants and jacket perfectly matched and tailored to his frame. The vest was a lighter
blue, creamy silk that clung to his chest and waist. The watch that had been his Winter's Eve gift was in the pocket of the vest, the chain glittered in the low light of the room. He had brushed his sable hair, still shortened as if he had shorn it anew for the night, but a few rich curls were left at the forehead, like a vision of Lord Byron. He straightened his silken cravat, having placed a perfect sapphire in the center, then moved to greet
Rae's return.
Silently, hoping that this was the right thing to do, she opened the door fully so that Ysabeau stood framed between her mother's loveliness and the clean lines of the doorway. The joy in her daughter's voice told her it was, even as Mintiper had looked up to catch her amber gaze, a silent thanks in his marvelous eyes. He had picked her up and swung her, both laughing in that way that made Rae dizzy in the sheer beauty of the sound. He had
balanced her so easily on his hip, showing off with gentlemanly grace the strength that resided in his supernatural body. He sketched a bow to Rae, still holding Ysabeau to him.::
And where are you taking us, cara mia?
::Rae smiled as she opened the portal, showing him the beach and the meadow beside it that she had chosen, the summer winds warm off the ocean and the night sparkling clear, the sky filled with innumerable stars. Moonlight washed the beach into brilliant whiteness and glittered like samite ribbons on the deep black of the ocean. They stepped through onto that purity of sand, and Mintiper let Ysabeau
down so she could search for a shell. He took Rae by the hand, and held her in that moonlight on the foreign shore, and kissed her. Gathering her up in his arms, he spun with her, the stars reflecting in those eyes as he looked up at her held high. This was his muse, and he would never let her go, had he a say in it.::
